Vice President of Merchandise
Weisman Discount Home Centers (www.weismandiscounthomecenters.com) is a New York headquartered retail chain. We currently operate eight (8) stores in the metropolitan area, in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. We have been in business for over 75 years.
The Company is a discount specialty retail chain with a focus on the kitchen and bath categories, selling merchandise such as: kitchen cabinets, countertops, ceramic floor and wall tile, wood flooring, vanities, toilets, sinks and other associated merchandise. Our store model is to offer great everyday prices, combined with a customer service focus, all in convenient neighborhood locations. We are embarking on a growth plan in 2009 and beyond. Our new stores will include both existing lines of merchandise, as well as additions to our assortment.
We are seeking an individual who is currently in the position of Merchandise Manager or Divisional Merchandise Manager and is ready to assume the role of Vice President of Merchandise. You must have direct and specific experience in the management of merchandise in the home improvement retail industry.
This position will be responsible for developing the merchandising strategy for the company and managing the day to day tasks associated with merchandise management.
You must have merchandise vision as it relates to both expanding our current product offerings and developing future lines of merchandise.
This position is both an executive and 'hands-on' position which will require the individual to develop both tactics and strategy. Our lean and small corporate staff is intimately involved in the everyday tasks of managing a retail organization.
We are seeking an individual with the following background and skill-set:
- At least five (5) years experience as a Merchandise Manager or a Divisional Merchandise Manager in a retail home improvement company with multiple locations
- Must have a working knowledge of general merchandising standards and selling techniques for home improvement merchandise
- Experience in procuring merchandise both domestically and internationally
- Experience in developing new lines of merchandise in the home improvement industry, that are consistent with the company's current merchandise categories
- The ability to analyze the performance of existing merchandise lines and make assortment adjustments as needed
- Working with retail store managers to develop visual merchandising standards and assisting them in 'romancing' the merchandise.
- Experience with establishing and managing key merchandising metrics, such as Open to Buy, Inventory Turnover, GMROI, Margin, etc.
- You must be comfortable working in fast paced environment
- You must be hands-on and be at ease with the details
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- You must be able to communicate effectively with our store personnel and corporate staff
